We got a good overview of the history of Portugal, Lisbon, Sintra. Despite the rainy weather we saw a lot. Nuno Gomes was a very professional and friendly tour guide. Go and enjoy Portugal.

Our guide Carlos was great. He managed to deal with a few major issues really well. The first of which the tour bus was more than 90 minutes late stuck in rush our traffic. 10 people left but 18 of us stayed. The late departure disrupted the entire day's schedule for entering the two palaces but Carlos worked with company staff to maintain our preferred entry. He even treated us to free pastry. Most importantly his knowledge of the sites and local history was really thorough and his English is very good and easy to understand.

The tour came as advertised. It was well organized, people assembled at the location and were divided into groups by language. The tour guide gave out information at both sites ( could have added more while we were driving to the site). We had 90 minutes on our own at lunch time, which was good.

The excursion from Lisbon to Sintra and Cascais was the best day of our vacation in Portugal! Our tour guide Catarina Palma knows so much about the history of Portugal and she had great recommendations for restaurants in Sintra and Cascais. She was also funny and made our day extra special! Sintra and Cascais are both gorgeous. Not to be missed when you go to Lisbon.

Back to the Pena bus via the forest.
Restaurant suggestion was a buffet formula which was a very good idea and we were well received.
The stop at the westernmost point Cabo da roca was a good one.
The stop at Cascais was less relevant. We would have preferred more time at other points.

No time to read? Day trips from Lisbon in a nutshell
From rainbow-colored palaces to oceans that roar louder than your Spotify playlist, here’s the quick-hit version of what to see, do, and snap just outside the capital.
Lisbon to Sintra tours
Sintra is straight out of a fantasy novel. The Historic Center charms with quaint cafés and tiled mansions, but it’s the landmarks that steal the show: the candy-colored Pena Palace & Gardens perched high above the clouds, the crumbling walls of the Moorish Castle, and the mystical tunnels and towers of Quinta da Regaleira. A Lisbon Portugal day trip that feels like stepping into another world.
Cascais is where Lisbon goes to unwind. Stroll through sunlit cobblestone lanes lined with pastel houses, duck into boutique shops for handmade treasures, and then grab a gelato by the harbor where sailboats sway lazily. A Lisbon day trip with pure seaside charm.
Stand at the edge of the world, literally. At Cabo da Roca, rugged cliffs plunge into the crashing Atlantic while a lonely stone cross marks the westernmost point of Europe. Bring a jacket: the winds are fierce, the views are fierce-er, and the selfies are legendary.
Even if you’re not religious, Fátima is powerful. At the Sanctuary, the vast square stretches out before the Basilica like a sea of stone. Step inside the Chapel of Apparitions, said to mark the spot where visions of the Virgin Mary appeared—serene, moving, unforgettable.
Nazare isn’t just about monster waves, though they’ll blow your mind. Climb to the clifftop Sítio da Nazaré viewpoint, where terracotta rooftops spill down to golden sand and the Atlantic unfurls to the horizon. On the right day, you might even spot daredevil surfers taming skyscraper-high waves.
No need to juggle train schedules or pray for an Uber in the middle of nowhere. Transfers are sorted, so instead of stressing, you’re free to watch the Portuguese countryside roll by and actually arrive fresh enough to enjoy it.
Your day, already curated
These aren’t random pit stops; they’re carefully strung-together highlights. A planned Lisbon day trip means you get the “wow” moments lined up back-to-back, with zero time wasted on “so… what should we do next?”
Stories you’d miss on your own
An expert guide doesn’t just tell you when a castle was built, but they’ll spill the drama, myths, and backstories that make ruins feel alive. Suddenly, the Moorish Castle isn’t just stones, it’s centuries of battles, whispers, and legends.
History on fast-forward
Why choose when you can see it all? In just one day trip from Lisbon, you’ll tick off UNESCO treasures like Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, and the Moorish Castle. That’s centuries of royal ambition and architectural flair crammed into a single Lisbon day trip.
Freedom to explore
You’ll hit the main sights and still get “do-your-own-thing” time. That could mean sipping vinho verde in Sintra, hunting vintage finds in Cascais, or standing windswept at Cabo da Roca pretending you’re in a James Bond movie.
A menu of adventures
Pick your flavor: Sintra for fairy tales, Nazaré for wave-chasing, Fátima for soulful calm, or mix a couple for the full feast. With Lisbon Portugal day trips, you’re never boxed in, it’s à la carte adventure.

Summer (June – August)
Hot days, long nights, and pure energy. Summer is when Lisbon’s rooftop bars, outdoor concerts, and riverfront parties come alive. Just pack sunscreen and patience, it’s peak season, but the vibe is unmatched.
Fall (September – November)
Golden sunsets, grape harvests, and thinner crowds. Autumn means perfect sightseeing weather and a calmer pace in the city. It’s also prime time for Lisbon Portugal day trips, with cooler hikes and fewer lines at landmarks like Pena Palace.
Winter (December – February)
Lisbon doesn’t do dreary winters. Expect cool but comfy days, festive holiday markets, and nearly no tourist queues. Bundle up for castle walks, duck into cozy fado bars, and enjoy the rare gift of exploring UNESCO treasures without the crowds.
